you are one of the best investigative journalists out there - you have the most integrity that i have seen and do a very good job reporting.

why haven't you tried to go after ACORN or other organizations that are receiving federal dollars to the tune of millions of dollars with out any type of reporting system. I want you to hire those two people that first exposed offices at ACORN.

please Chris do something for us out there - or do your own investigation on Health Insurance CRISIS? is this a manufactured crisis or will they throw out all of the coverage the American people get to help the 15% who aren't covered. I agree we should have reform but the way they are forcing this though something smells.

Mr. Hansen, I wish there was a never ending source of funding to make your "To catch a Predator" series a weekly show. I wondered if the same sting operation can be used to catch predators that have already committed the worst of crimes. An employee of mine has a 11 year old niece living with her mother in Texas that has had an untold number of encounters with predators over the internet. Her mother is aware of the 'visits' and has included her new husbands brother among the list of late night callers. In emails to the young girls grandmother, mom says she has forgiven the new brother in-law saying "It was only a couple of times, and it's ended"! Sounds like something for a Jerry Springer show but it only gets worse. Her father has petitioned the court in his home state of South Dakota for gaurdianship and has been denied. With no criminal record and a six figure career, the court forced the 11 year old girl to be sent back into her mothers 'care'. Although the local law enforcement offices in the mother hometown have seized her computers and have evidence of these contacts and their crimes, nothing has been done to bring these criminals to justice. How can an ordinary citizens such has myself seek the justice (and rehab) this little girl desperately needs?

How many times, in the past years, have you heard of a person being criminally charged, prosecuted, and jailed for a crime that eventually they were found not to have committed. Even if you answered 1, that 1 person is just too many. It happens more than you can imagine. It is a pandemic.

I know what I speak of, since for the last 9 plus years, my nearest and dearest friend, Steven Crain, was and still is a victim of being an innocent man being rail-roaded, incarcerated, because of the vindictive, retaliatory, drug using, drug dealing, drug selling, drug trafficking, Regina Hyman, and all because of the fact that Steven would not baby-sit her kids for free. Ms. Hyman filed false charges against him, claiming that Steven had sexually assaulted her daughter. There was never any evidence, just hearsay, and even that had so many lies. Regina Hyman has a history of making these types of accusations, both in Nevada and California.

I have seen the proof that financially challenged (poor) Steven is innocent and read the transcripts for his Clark County District Court Case 00-C-166673-C and Steven's Writ of Habeas Corpus (U. S. District Court – District of Nevada Case # 2:09-CV-01099-RLH-PAL) that definitely proves his innocence.

I will show, and name names of the government officials from the offices of the Clark County District Attorney, Clark County Deputy District Attorney, Clark County Public Defender, Las Vegas Police Department, Nevada Attorney General, Nevada Parole and Probation, Clark County District Court Judges, United States District Court Judges, Therapists, Attorneys, etc, who to this day, refuse to admit that they were wrong.

The emotional turmoil, the Legal Abuse Syndrome, Steven, to this day, suffer from and the horrific memories of being in jail are even painful to hear about.

Please help me, help my best friend Steven, for once and for all have his name and reputation cleared.

My son was sexually abused by a pedifile over a period of several years when he was a child. He is now 27 years old & ready to speak out & press charges against this man. We know where this pedifile lives and that he is still assaulting young boys. He has a history of over 20 years of this. His uncle is a sheriff in this small town so we don't feel it's safe to go to the police. We need help in putting this sick man in prison and locating the other boys that were also involved. Can you help? Please help us stop this madness! My son & so many other boys have suffered long enough!

After seeing your investigation into fake checks, when I recently found myself in a similar situation, I knew the $2,990 check was fake; what I didn't know is NOBODY CARES!

I was so angered by this scam that I took a few minutes to investigate; I called the man who had the check sent to me and found the name, address and phone number of the woman who was creating these checks and sending them out to unsuspecting victims.

I called the US Secret Service, the FTC and the NM Atty Gen. and nobody cared to do anything about it. I even called the bank the check was written on; though they verified that the check was indeed fraudulent, they would only be interested in the information I had if THEY had incurred a loss as a result.

Am I just contacting the wrong people? I naively thought our government had our backs better than this; okay you can laugh now.

Does anyone care about this, and if so, can you tell me how to get in touch with them?

To Catch a Predator just blows my mind. It is really scary. I am very glad you do a seris like this. Have a question? You show men getting arrested have you ever done a series about women getting caught? There are alot of sick men out there. It has just got to turn your stomach. What is the answer to stop these guys from doing this. Can't these websites be blocked from kids? What causes them to do this? I just don't get it. I just don't understand. I am watching the Flagler Beach eposode. Rayes was going to hug her his he crazy?I don't have any children, I am an Instructional Assitant for an Elementary School, how can anybody hurt a child or would want to? Thank you for trying to protect the children. What concerns me is the ones you don't catch. Since the series has aired has the problem lessened or increased? My compliments to you and the police officers for making a difference. God Bless You. Just be careful out there so none you don't get hurt.

Mr hansen i was in a yahoo chat room and there was this one guy screen name pedoman27 who was saying about having tons of nude pic's of children under the age of 13. yahoo seems to have no intrest of doing anything about this. How can i get invovled with helping get these people off the street?

Chris, I am so thankful that you are there, and that you have been serious and passionate about catching the predators who stalk our children. I am a teacher, a youth counselor, and most importantly, a mother. I FEAR THAT I PERSONALLY NEED YOUR HELP right now with a someone that I felt was a close "family friend"...and I now believe is "grooming" my two beautiful girls. Please have someone from your office contact me ASAP. He fits every profile you've ever taught us...and it's not just my kids I'm worried about. The more technology our kids get their hands on, the more they are being exploited.

great show exposing the rip off hydro-gas saving devise. after watching the first segment, i immediately phoned a friend to have him and his wife turn on your program and watch the rest, he was very seriously going to invest in that scam. great job-again !!!

I watch the show on debt crisis. I would like to offer some in-site on one of the collection characters. The guy who was calling himself as an attorney Andrew Brzyski. I think you might want to contact the IRS on this individual. No company and I mean NO company is going to allow a collector to have money sent to Western Union or any money receiver in their personal name. I was a previous collection manager. There is a protocol for all collection activity. The collection company will not allow an employee to cash the money item. The money would remain in check form and be deposited into some sort of company account. I think this Brzyski and some of the other collectors have there own scam going. I think they are collecting on accounts, picking up the funds and dividing the cash amongst themselves. I do not think the owner knows what is going on. Something deeper is taking place with this collection staff.

Dear Mr. Hansen:

I watched your Dateline presentation on the Debt Trap with great interest. It is clear that there are rogue collectors and collection agencies just as there are rogues in every other industry from finance to military to broadcasting.

I do appreciate that you gave Rozanne Anderson the opportunity to respond to some of the outrageous conduct you found. There are laws in place, which if enforced, would do much to limit this type of activity. The Commercial Lawyers Conference of New York, whose members practice commercial and consumer debt collection, has encouraged the authorities, not to respond in a knee-jerk reaction and write new law, but to fairly enforce the laws that are already on the books.

Impersonating a police officer or investigator is against the law. Threatening someone with arrest or harassing them as you reported are already against the law. The use of available remedies will stop much of the behavior portrayed on your program.

At the same time, I believe that you minimized one major point, personal responsibility for the repayment of debt. Despite the terrible economic times we are in, fewer than 10% of all consumers have defaulted on their credit card debts. The other 90% of consumers have honored their commitments and contracts to pay back the credit they used. As is often the case, the affected minority attracts attention, and in this case, justifiably so. However, we must maintain perspective and recognize that the behavior exposed on Dateline represents an incredibly small percentage of the debt collection industry.

I watched your story on the Financial Fiasco and was heartened to see that you mentioned Dodd and his legacy in this mess. But i didn't see anything on Freddie/Fannie and their "contribution" to this mess and the role that Barney Frank played in his association with Freddie back in the 90's. There was also a huge increase in sub-prime loans back in the 90's under Clinton. You also failed to mention that states like Texas didn't go through the mortgage bubble because the state outlawed sub-prime mortgages. They were looking after their people unlike CA, FL, NY, NV and many others but are now being hurt by the economy downturn caused by the government practice of pushing loans on people that could not afford them in order to put more minorities into homes. This whole problem was caused by the Democrats who refused to put a clamp on Freddie and Fannie's lending practices back in 2002and again in 2005.

Chris that was a very informative report you did on them ortage fiasco. Even thou it was no surprise as to what was in the report as far all of fraudelent activity that was done to create such a mess, what really struck me was that no one was willing to accept any responsibilty for this mess. I'm not leaving any one out as far as who is to blame. That includes the buyer who should have read their loan papers to make sure all the blanks were filled in to the wall street big wigs who bought these assets and everyone in between. The ones that really got taken were the the investors who bought these toxic assets. Until people are held acountable and until we can suppress our greed,problems like these can certainly happen again as seem to be a soceity with short term memory loss. Great report Chris! Tom
